Introduction
Beginning from AD 2008, CDPS has introduced Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Population Studies in order to train manpower in Demography at a higher level as a prerequisite to Doctor of Philosophy in Population Studies.
Objectives
The MPhil courses emphasize training in methodological, theoretical and empirical aspects of population research with multi-disciplinary focus.
Admission Criteria
Prospective students of MPhil must have possessed MA in Population Studies, Demography, Public Health, Public Administration and Health Education with at least second division from either Tribhuvan University (TU) or from other Universities recognized by TU. Students are admitted by screening through an entrance examination.
Courses and Credit Hours
The Central Department of Population Studies has proposed 9 courses for MPhil Programme including thesis. The duration of the programme will be of three semesters. Each of the first and the second semester will be devoted to teaching 12 credit hour courses. The third semester will be devoted to preparing thesis with 6 credit hours with full marks 50. Final examination carries 50 marks (Internal assessments 30 marks and a research paper 10 marks each).

A supervisor shall be assigned by the Central Department depending upon the expert areas of the Supervisor
Pre-viva voce exam shall be held after completion of the first draft of the thesis
Final viva voce exam shall be held after incorporation of the feedback/suggestion in the pre-viva exam.
