Prof. Mahendra Prasad Sharma (PhD), Central Department of Population Studies (CDPS) at Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal. His areas of expertise include Ageing, Fertility, Health and Development. He has published numerous national/international publications on various aspects of population, ageing, fertility, health and development. Additionally, he has participated and presented papers at the national/international seminars, workshops, conferences related to population and development, focusing on ageing, fertility, health, environment and development.
Prof. Sharma has accumulated approximately 30 years of teaching and research experiences at TU and has supervised M.A, M. Phil, and PhD students in Population Studies. He has served as a principal investigator and researcher in several national- level research projects conducted by the CDPS, TU funded by the Ministry of Health and Population; Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare. Furthermore, he held the position of Deputy Controller of the Examination Controller Office, Balkhu, TU for one tenure from July 16, 2012 to July 15, 2014.
Prof. Sharma's professional involvement extents to being a Resource Person/Advisor for Government organization(GOs), non-governmental organization(NGOs), international non-governmental organizations(INGOs), and National Universities. He served as an Executive Member (2012-14) of the Population Association of Nepal (PAN) and was a member the Technical Committee of the National Population Census 2021 (2078 BS), under the National Planning Commission, Government of Nepal. He also served as a Member (2017-2019) of the National Population Council, Chaired by the Right Honorable Prime Minister, Government of Nepal. Additionally, he has been a member (October 18, 2011- 2022) of the of the standing Committee of the Population Studies Subject Committee, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal, and Member of Population Subject Committee (2016 - 2022) of the Population Subject Committee at the +2 level, under the Ministry of Health, Science and Education, Government of Nepal, CDC, Sanothimi, Nepal.
Prof. Sharma has been the recipient of several fellowships, including the Nepal's Central Bank fellowship for his Bachelor degree, a full free ship in MA, a UGC Nepal fellowship for his MPhil, and a Ph.D. fellowship from Tribhuvan University, Coordination Division Central Office, TU, Nepal. He has authored several books in Population Studies at the +2, Bachelor and Master levels, as well as numerous articles in national and international journals.
